Big Creek is closed to floating from April 1 – May 31 and from August 1 – September 30. The lottery control season extends from May 28 - September 3.īig Creek floaters are required to obtain a Tributary Permit from the McCall District Office, but they are not required to obtain a Middle Fork permit if they will float all the way out in one day. The launch date is the first day that watercraft should hit the permitted stretch of the river. Booking a reservation here allows the individual to obtain a permit from the Forest Service to float this river. Outside of the full closure, no work will take place on weekends or federal holidays.Ī float permit is required year-round to be on the waters of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River between Dagger Falls and the river's confluence with the Main Salmon. Expect to encounter construction traffic from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday - Friday. When the road is open to travel, there may be multiple delays of up to 30 minutes. Boaters should access Boundary Creek outside of those times. Boaters will have to fly into the Indian Creek Launch Site or one of the other river access points downstream of Indian Creek.īeginning July 10th, for the remainder of the boating season, these roads(#579 and #568) may be closed for up to five hours daily from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. An alternate route to Bruce Meadows is available via FS Road #582 from Lowman, ID.Ī full closure of Road #568 (from Bruce Meadows to Boundary Creek) will be in place with no access to the boat launch between 9/5 – 9/15 the replacement of culverts and a bridge installation. The Stoddard Trailhead including the primitive boat ramp will be closed for the entire 2023 season.īetween August 7 and August 15, a section of Boundary Creek Road #579 (between Cape Horn Summit to the intersection with the 568 Road) will be closed. There will be a 30-day advance notice if this full road closure for these four-hour time periods is planned. From September 8th through October 2nd, there may be full road closure from 8am to noon and 2:30pm till 6:30pm daily. Throughout the boating season, expect delays on the Salmon River Road near the Stoddard Creek Trailhead of up to 60 minutes during daylight hours and up to 8 hours between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am. Potable Water Status: Boaters should anticipate not having available potable water at Indian Creek and Boundary Creek through the month of July. A multitude of class III and IV rapids offer boating excitement and challenge as part of a non-motorized floating experience with many technical runs. The Middle Fork originates 20 miles northwest of Stanley, ID, at the intersection of Bear Valley and Marsh Creeks, and is known world-wide for extraordinary whitewater float trips. The 104 mile-long stretch of river flows through the heart of the Frank Church - River of No Return Wilderness and is one of the original eight rivers in the nation designated as Wild and Scenic on October 2, 1968.
